Ellen O. Tauscher is founder, President, and Chief Exective officer of The ChildCare Registry, Inc., the first national child care provider pre-employment screening and resume verification service designed to provide parents and child care service operators with comprehensive, legally released, 7 year background checks. The company was established in 1992 and is headquartered in Danville, California, with a sales office in Atlanta, Georgia. Ms. Tauscher and The ChildCare Registry have receieved national aclaim for the service and have been featured on The Today Show, CNBC's "How to Succeed in Business", and The Opra Winfry Show. Additionally, Ms Tauscher and The ChildCare Registry have been profiled in numerous newspaper and magazine articles including the New York Times, Associated Press, The San Francisco Chronicle, the Los Angleles Times, Parenting Magazine, Working Mother, Vogue, and American Baby.
Ms. Tauscher began here career in investment banking and brokerage on Wall Street, where she spent 14 years in senior-level positions. She joined Bache Securities (now Prudential Securities) in 1974 and Bach elected here to a seat on The New York Stock Exchange in 1977. She was 25 years old at the time and the first woman to hold a seat representing a major Wall Street financial institution. Ms. Tauscher continued to build a reputable career in finance as an executive with the American Stock Exchange from 1979 to 1983 and then in investment banking with Bear Stearns and a subsidiary of Drexel, Burnham, Lambert.
Because of her accomplishments on Wall Street, Ms. Tausher has been sought-after by prestigious non-profit, educational and political organizations ranging from Senate campaigns and Olympic Committees to corporate board of director memberships. From 1978 to 1980 she served as Vice Chair of the New York State Olympic Committee and founded the Wall Street Olympic Committee, a multi-million dolar Olympic fundraising vehicle tageting the financial community. Between 1985 and 1989, Ms Tauscher was a member of the Seton Hall University Board of Regents. She also created the Tauscher Foundation upon her marriage to William Y. Tauscher in 1980. The Tauscher Foundation has provided $250, 000 to California and Texas schools to purchase computer equipment for primary school children.
Ms. Tauscher is a director of The Tauscher Family Companies, a private entity with annual sales of over $140 million and includes beef and transportation companies located in Dallas, Texas. Ms. Tauscher is also a member of the Board of Directors of TECSEC of Vienna, Virginia, The California Symphony, Alumnae Resources in San Francisco, Business Executives for National Security in Washington, D. C., and TradeRights, Inc. of Cheltenham, Unitied Kingdom.
Ms. Tauscher and her husband, William,. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Vanstart Corporation, formerly ComputerLand Corp, reside in Pleasanton, California and are the parents of Katherine, age 4. Ms. Tauscher is a graduate of Seton Hall University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education.
