If you are traveling by air, determine if you can fly from Oakland Airport, rather than SFO. It is much easier. Bart service (with a change of trains at MacAurthur or the next two Oakland stations) will take you the Coliseum station where you can then take a high frequency shuttle to your airline's front desk.
